The phrase "He carried our diseases" refers to Jesus Christ, and the New Testament verse in Matthew 8:17 quotes Isaiah 53:4-5, which describes Jesus as bearing our infirmities and carrying our diseases, fulfilling a prophecy about the suffering servant.
